Skin Pain Facts

A painful skin causes so much discomfort in the patient. Skin is a very important organ in the body that must be protected at all times. It is important to note that most of the skin diseases will result from infections in the skin.

Common causes of skin pain

Pain in the skin could be caused by Peripheral neuropathy. This is a condition whereby the peripheral nerves which relay signals from the body, spinal cord and brain loose functionality. This condition is caused by certain diseases and disorders such as HIV, alcoholism, Guillain-Barre syndrome and alcoholism. The location of the skin pain will be determined by the specific cause. This condition is characterized by reddening of skin, itching, swelling and so on.

Pain in the skin may also result from skin burns. Burns may be as a result of exposure to radiations, heat, chemicals and direct sun. Some of the skin pains caused by burns are easy to treat while others will require you to see a physician.

Other causes of skin pains include; skin injuries such as lacerations, abrasions and bruises. Poor circulation of blood to the skin may also cause pain. Food allergies have also been associated with some pains in the skin.

How to get rid of skin problems

If the pain is caused by skin injuries, it is important to ensure that the damages are treated accordingly. Always ensure that the injured parts are clean to prevent the entry of disease causing organisms to the body.

If you suspect that the pain is resulting from food allergies, it would be important to find which specific foodstuff is causing you the allergy. Some of the foods known to cause allergy includes eggs, coffee, nuts, corn, wheat and dairy. To determine which one, get rid of all these foodstuffs for a period of two weeks and then start adding them to your meals each at a time. This is an easy way to determine which foodstuff you are allergic to after which you should eliminate it completely from your diet.

Herbal remedies can also be used to cure skin pains. A popular herb for this purpose is sarsaparilla. This herb has the capacity to eliminate toxins from the blood. It is used by many herbalists to treat most skin pain conditions. This herb is mostly added to tea when being taken.

A device called Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) is also used to get rid of skin pains. This portable battery operated device generates electrical impulses that are sent to different parts of the body whereby the electrical impulses block the pain. This device has electrodes that are attached to the region of the skin experiencing the pain. You can either rent the device or buy it.

If the pain is severe or in a situation that you cannot identify its cause, it is important to see a doctor as fast as possible. Some of the pains in the skin could be an indication of an underlying health problem that can only be identified if you are examined by a doctor. The doctor will be able to prescribe pain medications, tricyclic antidepressants and nerve block injections.
