Natural Ways to Ease Morning Sickness

We’ve all seen the commercialsglowing expectant mothers, smiling and enjoying the miracle of pregnancy. Unfortunately, many women spend the first few weeks or months of their pregnancies hovering over a toilet bowl while waiting for the latest bout of nausea to pass. If you are one of the women who is experiencing morning sickness (which can happen at any time of day or night), try these excellent natural remedies to ease your nausea and let you feel your best during your pregnancy:

Ginger

Women around the world have been using ginger to sooth nausea and morning sickness since the dawn of civilization. Ginger has naturally soothing qualities, which is why ginger ale is often given to children with upset stomachs. You can enjoy the nausea relief and great taste of ginger by eating it raw, crunching ginger cookies, drinking ginger ale, sipping ginger tea, or sucking on crystallized ginger candy.

Peppermint

If you do not like the taste of ginger, you can get many of the same benefits from peppermint. Peppermint has been proven as an effective, safe way to ease the discomfort of nausea. You can relieve your nausea by chewing peppermint gum, sucking peppermint candies, drinking peppermint tea, or sniffing peppermint oil.

Fennel

Fennel has a delightful licorice flavor that makes it a tasty way to ease morning sickness during pregnancy. The next time nausea strikes, drink some fennel tea or chew on some fennel seeds until the feeling passes.

Vitamin B6

Many times, morning sickness is caused by a deficiency in the vitamin B6 and can be cured by taking the supplement. There have been numerous clinical trials that prove its effectiveness. Before you take vitamin B6, however, consult your obstetrician to determine the right dosage for you.

Protein

Many women experience morning sickness due to dips in blood sugar. A good way to avoid these dips is to never let your stomach get completely empty. Instead, have a regular light snack that includes protein to keep your insulin levels steady and to avoid nausea. Peanut butter and crackers, Greek yogurt, roasted edamame, boiled eggs, and trail mix are all good choices.

With all the safe, natural remedies that are available, there is no reason why you should suffer any further from morning sickness. Try these simple cures until you find the one that works best for you. Once you have your nausea under control, you can get back to the business of enjoying your pregnancy.
