Get Personal with Your Skin

We habitually clean our face every day, but to what extent do we pay attention to how much we do it and how well we do it? Everyone’s skin is different meaning one person’s skin routine will vary from the next person. The next time your friend tries to get you to buy that great face product they have been using, remember to do your research first. The last thing you want to do is shell over your extra spending money on a product that doesn’t work well with your skin. You want to get one hundred percent from your cleanser and knowing you spent money on a great product that will do wonders should make you feel good, too.

Cleansing is an important part in keeping your skin healthy. For the most effective wash, use a cleanser that matches your skin type.

The cleaner your skin is after washing it, the better and more effective the other skin care products will be. Just be careful not to over clean. Too much cleansing can be just as damaging to the process.  Over cleansing, strips the skin of its natural oils, leaving your skin feeling dry and irritated, clearly the exact opposite of what you want to achieve.

Wash your face up to twice a day, gently massaging the cleanser into your pores to really get at germs and rinse with lukewarm water. Using water that is too hot or cold will only end up drying out skin and breaking capillaries, so be sure to wash at just the right temperature.  Clean your face once in the morning to rinse bacteria that developed overnight from sleep and your pillow and once again in the evening to get rid of makeup and dirt that’s been accumulating on the surface all day.

Some people prefer to pre-cleanse their skin with a cleansing cloth or type of makeup remover so they are positive that their facial cleanser gets everything from the surface to deep down inside pores. Pat, not rub, your face dry with a nice clean towel or cloth.

After drying, apply a toner with a cotton pad or ball to help moisturize and even out skin tone. Toners are a great addition to a cleansing routine because they also helpful in removing any lingering grime your face wash might have missed before. It’s up to you to show dirt and bacteria that you’re not messing around. After toning, follow up with a moisturizer. A moisturizer will help to add a little more hydration to your skin that might have been lost from cleansing. Happy, radiant skin is healthy, hydrated skin.
