An Organic, Healthy Treatment for Glowing Skin: Cleaning Your Face with Oil
The oil cleansing method uses oil to clean your skin rather than stripping the skin of its natural oils. Removing all of the face’s protective oils simply prompts our skin to secrete oil as a protective layer. To clean the face naturally is to work with the characteristics of your skins. Using organic oils makes this a truly aesthetic experience as well as a healthy experience that will not expose you to toxins.
A Day at the Spa
When I went to one of my favorite spas for a facial instead of a massage one day, I experienced the oil cleansing method for the first time. It surprised me that the intelligent, skillful esthetician was putting oil on my already oily skin. But she was the expert, so I simply noted what she was doing. Then my skin was exposed to steam with the oil on it. That, I thought, is going to make my skin oily. After steaming for a few minutes, I was treated to a warm cloth draped over my face scented with lavender essential oil. More heat, more oil, but the lavender fragrance and the warmth made me forget all about the oil. Once the washcloth on my face cooled, it was removed, she wiped my face with it, and then repeated with more oil, more steam, a warm cloth over my face, and finished with wiping. I was asked to touch my skin and respond to how does it feel. The tingle alone said it all, but it felt soft and dewy moist all over. It was oily at all. It seemed happy. It was an amazing skin care regimen that I duplicate for myself at home now.
Warming Your Washcloths
There are several essential oils that can be used on the face. Lavender oil is soothing and also antibacterial. When I prepare two warm washcloths, I put a medium size pot on the stove, add about 5-6 drops of lavender essential oil, and then add two washcloths, stir and flip, and then put the lid on over medium heat. Once they are warm, I turned the heat to its lowest setting. I set a pair of tongs and a plate next to the pot. Once the clothes are warm, I swirl one in the water with the tong, remove it, drain a little of the water, and then place it on the plate next to the pot. Now I’m ready for phase two, applying facial oils.
Applying Facial Oils
This type of facial is a healthy and organic way to take care of your skin that is enjoyable and gets results. To begin, you will need an oil that easily absorbed by the skin like almond oil, extra virgin coconut oil, jojoba, or sunflower oil. I prefer almond oil. It has a lovely fragrance. Some essential oils, tea tree, lavender, myrrh, sage, and lemon, have antibacterial properties. As you place a little of your facial oil of choice in the palm of your hand, you can also add a little of these beneficial essential oils. I like the freshness of tea tree oil. It eliminates bacteria and also promotes healing. I rub the almond oil and tea tree oil together in the palm of my hand and then apply unapologetically and liberally to my entire face. I slowly massage my face all over in small circles, rubbing the oil in everywhere. This feel really good, and it’s just about to get better.
Lavender Scented Washcloths, Take Me Away
The washcloth on the plate gets a slight squeeze to eliminate some of the moisture, and I sit down, relax, and apply this warm cloth to my face. Immediately the smell of lavender welcomes me to a warm facial experience. Once the washcloth has cooled, I wipe my entire face to carefully remove the oils, dead skin cells, and impurities. Then I repeat this entire process again. The results are incredible feeling skin. It lets you know that you’ve just done something wonderful for yourself. The tingle, the evenness of moist, plump skin, and a sense of contentment await you when you’re done.
